Lions FC is pleased to announce that Gabriel Hawash has joined the team as Club Technical Director ahead of the 2026 season.
Gabriel arrives at the club with a wealth of experience, having spent the last four years with the Holland Park Hawks. During his time at the club, he oversaw a substantial rise in the FQ Academy rankings and led their senior side back into the FQPL1.
In his role as Club Technical Director, Gabriel will work alongside NPL Men’s Head Coach and FQA Junior Technical Director Dan Barber, NPL Women’s Head Coach Nic Whiteside, Individual Player Development Coach Jake Bulla Minett, MiniRoos Coordinator Thomas Hart, and our entire coaching department to support our Senior NPL Programs and strengthen our FQ Academy Program.
Gabriel has already hit the ground running and is currently leading our FQA1 Girls & Boys through a three-week preseason block at SomerFields while working to streamline our program ahead of the 2026 season.
Speaking about the move, Gabriel expressed his enthusiasm about getting out on the grass and working with our coaches.
“The exciting thing about this role is it’s going to allow me and the technical staff to really focus on the football side of things.
I think the culture that’s already in place here is obviously at a very high level. So I don’t think there’s an awful lot that needs to be changed. It’s more so about bringing my flavour to things both on and off the field.
For me, it’s more just about refining what the club’s done really well and implementing my own ideas, particularly in the academy space. I think the senior space is obviously managing itself, so I’m there to support the senior coaches where needed.
We’re all looking to keep Lions where they belong. And that’s for me at the top of the tree in Queensland.”
General Manager Rob Scanlon shared his thoughts on the appointment.

His professionalism, attention to detail, and commitment to developing both players and coaches really stood out.
He’s a person of strong ethics and standards, and his belief in continual growth and learning will be a great asset to our program.”
