ALEX FIECHTNER’S STOPPAGE-TIME STRIKE SEE OUR LIONS MEN CROWNED BACK-TO-BACK KAPPA PRO SERIES CHAMPIONS AT PERRY PARK
Our Lions Men entered the field at Perry Park under sunny, winter skies as we looked to defend our Kappa Pro Series crown against Moreton City Excelsior.
It was an end-to-end start to the game, with both sides defending carefully, while looking to play quickly into the opposite half. Our first clear chance saw Alex Fiechtner cut inside onto his left foot, but his curling effort was quickly blocked before it could challenge the keeper.
As Moreton City Excelsior began to apply pressure in our defensive third, Luke Borean was required to show his class with two fine saves to keep the score level. A fantastic low diving save, followed by a full-stretch parry to prevent a sharp freekick from finding the back of the net.
With little more chances in the first half, both sides settled for a 0-0 draw at the break.
We increased our level after the break, controlling possession in the opposition half for most of the half. Alex Fiechtner steered a half-volley wide at the back post after a firm, early cross from Finn Beakhurst, and moments later struck the upper right-hand post after cutting inside onto his right foot!
Jack Skinner and Luke Broderick both drilled powerful efforts over the crossbar late in the second half, and the game looked destined to seep into extra-time until Alex Fiechtner stepped up with the decisive moment. A stunning touch on his chest, followed by a forward header and a blistering run down the left flank, finished calmly across the keeper in the 92nd minute to secure the title!

The full-time whistle followed, and our Lions Men celebrated a second consecutive Kappa Pro Series title, and a third successive victory over Moreton City Excelsior in Finals. Congratulations to Darren Sime, Dan Barber, and our Lions Men on a fantastic Kappa Pro Series campaign!
