KPS Round #4: A Commanding Comeback in Kingscliff

OUR LIONS MEN CAME FROM BEHIND WITH A DOMINANT ATTACKING PERFORMANCE AGAINST A STRONG GOLD COAST UNITED SIDE IN THE KAPPA PRO SERIES

A second-half comeback saw our Lions earn a 2-1 victory in Kingscliff with goals from Joshua Brindell-South and Andy Pengelly.

After an intense start that saw Gold Coast United create the stronger chances, the Tallebudgera-based side took the lead after a flurry of corners in their favour. Rising in the centre, the hosts broke the deadlock with a thumping header that wrong-footed Cardiff Pond.

We created an immediate response through Luke Broderick, who jinxed down the left flank, engaging his defender before slipping the ball to James Enticknap, who sent an enticing shot into the box. A strong save from the keeper prevented the equaliser, sending the shot out for a corner.

A sudden, game-changing moment saw Gold Coast United reduced to ten men after a late, last-man challenge on Alex Fiechtner, who was bearing down on goal down the right. The coach was shown a yellow card.

Jack Skinner burnt down the left flank with blistering pace, darting diagonally inside before opening his body and curling his shot painfully wide past the keeper.

Our Lions Men drew level ten minutes from the break, with Josh Brindell-South creeping in at the back post to edge home a driven Alex Fiechtner shot that was gliding narrowly wide across goal.

We finished the first half strong before showing our intent after the restart. Joe Duckworth forced an extraordinary save, clipping a powerful first-time effort towards the top right corner.

After knocking firmly on the door, Andy Pengelly broke the deadlock. He controlled a sharp pass with his back to goal in the centre of the box before pivoting and driving a pure strike into the bottom right corner.

We saw out the game with defensive unity, defending in numbers and counterattacking in force. The hosts hit the crossbar in the ninetieth minute as our Lions Men fought hard for an important victory.
