Anna Soulsby scores four, and our Lions Women progress in the Kappa Queensland Cup with a 4-0 victory against The Gap
Kicking off our Kappa Queensland Cup on the road against FQPL1 side The Gap, our Lions Women maintained the strong form that has seen them win three consecutive games without conceding.
We hit the ground with intensity, and Anna Soulsby quickly forced a save with a sharp effort towards the bottom left corner. Scarlett Premerl forced a strong diving save with a great first-time effort from the top of the box, and Tonia-Marie Rantucci’s whipped cross was missed by millimetres at the back post as we rained fire in the opening fifteen minutes.
Awarded a penalty as the heavy rainfall commenced, and Anna Soulsby made zero mistake as she slotted home her 10th goal of the season.

Another fantastic whipped cross, but Scarlett’s front-post header missed the top left corner by inches. Anna again forced a great diving save in search of her second, and Scarlett’s brilliant left-footed cross found Ana Tormena’s run at the back post.
Her shot was palmed into the post, trickling along (or across?) the goalline before ultimately being cleared.
Lunging forward at the far post to meet a sinking cross, Anna saw her diving effort blocked, but improvised from the floor to scissor the uncleared ball under the keeper and into the bottom right corner.

We entered the break wet, but with a commanding 2-0 victory to build upon.
Back on the grass, and the rain somewhat subsided. It was inevitable that Anna would find her hattrick goal with quick precision. A bullet header across the keeper and into the upper right corner after an excellent delivery from Ana!

A missile across goal from Ana Tormena forced a fingertip save, and an inswinging corner saw our Lions Women strike the left post.
Minutes before the hour mark, Anna rifled home goal number four to finalise our progression.

We made good use of our substitutes, and Daisey Bateman saw a series of powerful right-footed strikes blocked or misdirected. The best of the bunch looked certain for the top right corner before a deflection sent it over the crossbar.
A catalogue of late chances, including Georgie Zerbst’s curling effort that missed the top right corner by inches, and our Lions Women ended the game with a 4-0 victory. Four wins in a row. Four straight cleansheets. Four goals to Anna Soulsby in what may have seemed like a one-man show, but was a brilliant collective display across the pitch.
