KQC Semi-Final: Grand Final Bound!

LIONS MEN PROGRESS TO KAPPA QUEENSLAND CUP WITH A VALIANT 2-1 VICTORY OVER OLYMPIC

Andy Pengelly’s quick-fire first-half double made the difference as our Lions Men overcame Olympic at Goodwin Park.

Andy Pengelly saw our Lions Men off to the fastest possible start, pinning a surgical strike into the bottom left corner after a smooth run down the centre. It was a great pass from Shaun Carlos to break the deadlock eight minutes in.

In the tenth minute, Andy Pengelly doubled our advantage with a similar strike into the bottom left corner. This time, Andy created the chance, reacting quickly to a loose ball and steering it towards goal.

A brilliant start.

Andy Pengelly dragged a first-time shot millimetres wide just minutes later and had his would-be hattrick goal disallowed for offside. Alex Fiechtner forced a diving save after a disguised shot on his weak foot, and Alwin Komolong was forced off injured after the half-hour mark.

Minutes before the interval, Linden Farr recovered a goal, sending us into the second half with a 2-1 lead.

Olympic stepped up the tempo in the second half, mounting pressure on our defence, particularly through Cyrus Dehmie. Pranav Vallah did well in mitigating the danger before Finn Beakhurst replaced him and continued the job.

Our closest chance of the second half came through Jack Skinner, who ran onto a beautifully threaded ball from Shaun Carlos but saw his first-time save blocked firmly by the keeper.

Relentless pressure from Finn Beakhurst prevented a dangerous shot and won a goal kick. Finn also made another impeccable challenge on Cyrus Dehmie, who he contained brilliantly after coming on in the second half.

Luke Broderick created a chance before a massive outstretched hand from Cardiff Pond prevented the equaliser. Hassan Ramazani made a match-winning block to prevent the follow-up shot from breaking the deadlock.

With courage, grit, and determination, our Lions Men held on to secure a massive 2-1 victory and earn ourselves a place in the Kappa Queensland Cup Grand Final!
