TWO SECOND-HALF GOALS AGAINST THE BULLDOGS SECURE PROGRESSION WITH A 2-0 VICTORY AT JOHN FREDERICKS PARK
The Capalaba Bulldogs showed immense resistance as our Lions Women looked to start quickly against the FQPL1 side. They limited our space in the final third, forced us wide, and by the thirtieth minute, our closest chance was a misdirected cross that the keeper caught without concern.
We remained patient in possession, slowly working the ball into the central areas of the attacking third, and it was Meaghan McElligott who drew our first chances five minutes before the break. A low shot that clipped the woodwork before bouncing kindly back in her path. Her follow-up effort was dragged wide.
Rachel Dudley then struck the left peg with a deflected strike from the same side, and the first half ended 0-0 after a strong and balanced contest.
We started the second half with a stronger emphasis on attacking the Capalaba goal. A series of early chances failed to convert, and Shianna Singh saw a first-time effort blocked firmly from the edge of the box.
Shianna Singh dragged a shot wide of the bottom left corner minutes later, and then Meaghan McElligott struck gold on the hour mark. A slick run off the left shoulder, and a deft outside-foot finish across the keeper!

Momentu remained with us, and we continued pushing for a second goal to solidify our advantage. Shianne Rosselli found that goal with a swift half-volleyed chip over the keeper!

The best part of the night came straight after the second goal. After almost a full year recovering from injury, Amy Gunston finally took her first steps onto the field. And she didn’t miss a beat.
Amy embarked on a swift zig-zagging run into the box, forcing a fine save as she attempted to pick the far side! She created a few more key chances down the left flank in the final ten minutes, and McKinley Stiff forced an excellent save with a powerful low effort across the keeper.
We stayed focused, and walked off the field with a proud 2-0 victory, and progression to the next round of the cup confirmed.
