KQC Women Round #4: All Class from our Lions Women

LIONS WOMEN PROGRESS IN KAPPA QUEENSLAND CUP WITH DOMINANT VICTORY OVER GOLD COAST UNITED

Our Lions Women showcased their brilliant football with a resounding 4-1 victory on their return to Luxury Paints Stadium.

We started strongly on our return to Luxury Paints Stadium. The field was fresh and spotless, renewed after a month of away days. It was a physical start, with neither side managing to create any clear chances despite the end-to-end acceleration.

Amy Gunston broke the deadlock in the 20th minute, slotting home neatly into the bottom right corner with her left foot. An elegant first-time finish after a fine pass to create the space.

We continued to create strong chances, with Amy Gunston forcing a fine close-range save at the near posts before striking the crossbar minutes later from the corner. Despite our dominance, the visitors levelled on the brink of half-time after catching Isabella Shuttleworth off her line.

We went into the interval pegged at 1-1.

Gold Coast United started strongly in the second half, forcing a brilliant fingertip save from Isabella Shuttleworth after a sharp cutback across goal. On the hour mark, Emileigh Bowman stepped onto the field for Tara O’Keeffe and, with her first touch of the game, scored the breakthrough goal from a corner.

Meaghan McElligott sliced a shot into the post before Amy Gunston finished calmly across the goal following a great exchange of first-time passes with Meaghan McElligott.

Daisey Bateman added the cherry on top of a profound performance, coming off the bench to hook home a beautiful first-time finessed effort into the top right corner.

Mariel Hecher made her return to the field in Lions colours, showing her class as our Lions Women went on to secure a well-earned and hard-fought 4-1 victory at home.

A fantastic team performance and a firm reaction after last weekend’s defeat at Perry Park.
