BRISBANE CITY FIGHT FROM BEHIND TO DEFEAT OUR LIONS MEN 4-2 IN A HEATED CLASSICO AT IMPERIAL CORP STADIUM
Our Lions Men started strongly at Imperial Corp Stadium in an important clash in our NPL Premiership campaign.
Trent Millard forced a sharp save inside the opening ten minutes, and Matt Acton made two strong saves as the hosts attempted to catch us on the counter. Jack Skinner opened the scoring with a piercing finish into the bottom right corner after beating his defender inside the box!

Despite dominating most of the first half and creating several more chances to double our advantage, the hosts equalised five minutes before the break with a thunderous strike into the top left corner from distance.
We very nearly re-took the lead on the stroke of half-time, but Trent Millard’s cross was cleared before Andy Pengelly could touch it over the line. Joe Duckworth planted a first-time effort over the crossbar from just inside the box, and we entered the interval locked at 1-1.

The second half started on the wrong note, with our Lions Men conceding a penalty ten minutes after the restart. City’s spot-kick was buried into the top right corner with conviction, and the pressure was on.
Five minutes later, an untracked cross found the hosts at the back post, and they fired into the bottom left corner with precision to take a two-goal lead. And two minutes after that, they pounced on an error to slot home goal number four.
With thirty minutes remaining, we needed a miracle.
Alex Fiechtner volleyed an audacious scissor kick over the crossbar with ten minutes remaining in the tie, and five minutes later, he planted a bullet header into the bottom left corner to give our Lions Men a lifeline.

Almost straight from kickoff, our Lions Men recovered possession, launching a cross into the box that Andy Penelly nodded into the bottom right corner. Somehow, and incorrectly, the goal was disallowed for offside, and with five minutes remaining, we still needed two goals to equalise.
The chance of a famous comeback escaped, and our Lions Men were forced to take a harsh 4-2 defeat.
Our U23s Men had no luck either, leaving Imperial Corp Stadium with a 3-1 defeat.
