Our Lions Men secured a vital 1-0 victory over Eastern Suburbs to stay within touching distance of first place
A quick start in front of a lively crowd. Alex Fiechtner cut inside and forced an early save in a match that required three points to keep us on par with Peninsula Power.
It didn’t take long to find the breakthrough, with Alex Fiechtner scoring in his 16th successive NPL game, bringing his tally to 31 NPL goals in 18 games. It was a brilliant strike from a near-impossible angle at the front post!

As we looked to double our advantage, Cher Deng forced a fingertip save with a powerful downward header towards the bottom right corner. Rahmat Akbari ripped a furious strike over the top right corner, and Luke Broderick forced a sharp save at the near post!
Another great effort from Rahmat Akbari flashed across the face of the goal on the half-volley, and our Lions Men entered the break with a tight 1-0 advantage.
It was an intense second half, and Tommy Jarrard was called into action to make an early challenge inside the box. Luke cut inside on the edge of the box and rifled his effort over the crossbar, and Mitch Hore curled a daring strike over the woodwork following a penetrating attacking run from Zane North.
Alex Fiechtner skipped across his defender, drilling a left-footed effort millimetres shy of the bottom right corner, before he was denied again in the centre of the box.
As we approached the final ten minutes and Easts started desperately hunting an equaliser, Jacson Riley was forced to make a fingertip save to push a powerful effort over the crossbar!
A brilliant moment of play fell in stoppage time, with Fred Oyet unleashing a missile towards the top right corner. His furious strike clattered off the crossbar emphatically as our Lions Men saw out a crucial 1-0 victory!
