With an energetic rhythm established, our Lions Men continued to craft a variety of measured and improvised chances that saw us close in on a second goal. Jacson Riley was forced to make a save at his near post, but for the most part, it was one-way traffic as our Lions Men rattled the Brisbane City cage.
Before the half-hour mark, Cher Deng rose with grace, nodding a powerful header into the bottom left corner with strength!

Luke Broderick forced an outstretched fingertip save with an outrageous effort from distance, and Alex Fiechtner demanded another outstretched block with a powerful curling effort inside the box. Harvey Pope jumped at the back post to steer an elegant karate-kick volley over the crossbar, and our Lions Men entered the interval with a 2-0 lead to be proud of.
Brisbane City picked up the tempo in the second half, but our Lions Men remained composed as the visitors looked to force a breakthrough. Zane North was denied a glorious curling effort, destined for the top right corner, but tipped over the crossbar.
On the hour mark, City found the goal, with a first-time finish into the bottom left corner, picking the lock and setting up a fiery, physical, and high-octane final thirty minutes.
Chances untaken fell our way as our Lions Men looked to re-establish a two-goal advantage, and defensive resilience was required as we continued to deal with the threat of an increasingly desperate City outfit.
Our resistance was broken in the 83rd minute, with a powerful first-time strike from the visitors finding the bottom left corner again.
While momentum was in City’s favour, we remained collected, knowing we needed to find the lead again. Brisbane City had a series of chances, and Tommy Jarrard made a brilliant tackle inside the box to ease the threat.
Jackson Hart-Phillips saw a back-post header blocked after a looping cross from Harvey Pope, and Alex Fiechtner was controversially denied a penalty deep in stoppage after surging into the box and appearing to be taken out from behind. We worked until the final second, but accepted a 2-2 stalemate.
