NPLM Round #8: Strong Victory at Compass Grounds

OUR LIONS MEN CONTINUE THEIR FINE FORM WITH PROFESSIONAL WIN OVER REDLANDS UNITED

A precise brace from Alex Fiechtner followed by goals from Andy Pengelly and Jackson Hart-Phillips earning our Lions a comfortable 4-2 victory on the road.

We started on the front foot, advancing quickly and looking to find an early goal. A sweeping cross to switch the play and a half-volley straight at the keeper from Matt Ridenton showed our intent within the opening three minutes.

Jack Skinner embarked on a marauding run down the left flank, driving into the box but losing possession before he could manage to squeeze his shot away. We won several dangerous freekicks as we continued to mount pressure on the edge of the box.

We opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, with Alex Fiechtner bursting down the right and slicing a low shot across the goal from the byline. It was a wonderful aerial through-ball from James Enticknap, who made the pass from his own half.

Within 60 seconds, Alex Fiechtner had his second, cutting inside and finessing an elegant strike into the top left corner. His fifth goal of the NPL season.

Ten minutes from the break, Andy Pengelly etched his name onto the scoresheet, finishing the ball sharply from an acute angle after taking a heavy touch around the keeper. It was a discreet reverse through-ball from Matt Ridenton that opened the space.

Jackson Hart-Phillips put the finishing touches on a dominant performance, tapping home at the back post five minutes into the second half. It was a low strike from Jack Skinner that fell to his feet after an initial save from the keeper.

We won our first corner of the game before the hour mark as heavy rainfall engulfed Compass Grounds. The hosts pulled two goals back in the final stages, but our Lions Men remained comfortable in their performance, seeing out a firm 4-2 victory on the road.

An important victory that helps us keep the pressure on the top of the NPL Table. As it stands, we sit three points off first place with a game in hand. Fully focused on our next match.
