A harsh end to our 2026 season as our Lions Women are defeated 2-0 at Luxury Paints Stadium in the Preliminary Final
Facing Easts at home for a place in the NPLW Grand Final, our Lions Women gave everything on a night that ultimately wasn’t meant to be.
An early chance for Scarlett Premerl rose over the crossbar, before Abbey Lloyd pinned a shot wide of the top right corner after beating two defenders.
Abby Evetts made a great goal-line clearance early on, but it was Tegan Riding who capitalised on a defensive error to slip Easts into an early lead.
Both Abbey Lloyd and Anna Soulsby saw strikes saved as they looked for an avenue back into the game. Stella Campbell made a brilliant diving save, and we entered the break trailing by a lone goal.
We continued pushing after the break, with Stella making an unreal one-v-one save off her line. Abbey narrowly missed the bottom right corner, and Amy Gunston’s back-post effort was blocked.
With ten minutes remaining, Tegan Riding pounced on a loose ball in the centre of the box and struck the deafening blow.
We threw everything left at the visitors for ten minutes, but painfully, our season ended at Luxury Paints Stadium.
Well done Nic Whiteside and our Lions Women on a proud season. We’ll see you in 2027.
