WE FIGHT FROM 3-0 DOWN, BUT OUR LIONS WOMEN FALL 4-3 AGAINST EASTS IN A BRUTAL CLASH AT LUXURY PAINTS STADIUM
Eastern Suburbs put our Lions Women immediately on the back foot as they kicked off the game at Luxury Paints Stadium. Second place hosting third as we looked to bounce back from a difficult week of football.
Chelsea Blissett made a crucial sliding challenge to prevent an early goal from the visitors, but they still struck first inside the first fifteen minutes. Tegan Riding found a way to haunt us, capitalising on a defensive lapse and lifting the ball through Elli Chapple from close range.
We tried to pick ourselves up quickly, but the hosts maintained their pressure and made it 2-0 in the twentieth minute. Elli Chapple made a fine save as Tegan Riding looked to make it three, and Ellen Gett created a dangerous chance as we looked for a route back into the game.
A ruthless finish into the bottom left corner made it 3-0 on the verge of half-time, but Shianne Rosselli promptly erased the goal with her own to make it 3-1 with the final kick of the half!

We restarted the second half with total focus and renewed determination. Three great chances in the first ten minutes signified our intention, with Meaghan McElligott forcing a stunning save before Ellen Gett and Kiersten Yuhas guided strong efforts off-target!
On the edge of the hour, Kiersten Yuhas halved the deficit with a beautiful right-footed goal inside the right post after cutting inside deftly!

Our Lions Women took the reins, overwhelming Eastern Suburbs with their intensity and pressure. It was Meaghan McElligott who brought us back from despair, turning from thirty yards and hooking a piercing strike over the keeper and into the far side of goal! A wonder-goal to bring us from three goals down!

Despite the jubilation and the belief that we could find a late winner, Eastern Suburbs reminded us why they were three goals up and stole back the lead with a powerful header into the bottom left corner.
Amy Gunston came off the bench to make her first home appearance in almost a year. And while we threw everything in our arsenal at the visitors, our luck ran out and we couldn’t find another equaliser.
It was an effort to take pride in as we fought from three goals down, but a result that goes against us in a 4-3 thriller. A difficult week for our Lions Women, but we know you will come back stronger next week. Stay positive; this season is far from over.
