Our Lions Women demonstrated the highest levels of supremacy in Tuesday’s late-night clash at home, slotting seven unanswered goals past QAS in a brutal, brilliant, and beautiful display.
With our Valentine’s Day clash rained out, our Lions Women geared up for a late evening clash against a QAS side who had made a statement in their 5-1 opening round victory last week.
It was a challenge we looked forward to after our intense preseason victory over them several weeks earlier, and a challenge we were more than ready for when we walked onto the field to The Greatest Show (Which played on delay because the admin’s laptop crashed – oops).
Less than ten minutes saw us break the deadlock. Scarlett Premerl opening her 2026 account with a composed front-post header at point-blank range. It was an excellent goal, but not as good as her strike to make it two-nil. An expansive team move saw Rachel Dudley find Anna Soulsby out wide on the right, and her diagonal pass was met by Scarlett, who set herself on the edge of the box and clipped the ball into the bottom right corner with a measured flourish!

Anna Soulsby attempted an acrobatic overhead scissor kick from the edge of the box, forcing a straightforward save after a clean connection, and minutes later, finished at the back post after a slicing team move, which saw her combine with Evelyn Calhoon and Scarlett.

A stunning first half-hour at home. Scarlett saw an improvised strike saved at close range and a glancing header off-target as our Lions Women entered the break with a 3-0 lead to expand on.
There was no stopping us when play resumed. Three goals in the first half meant we wanted four goals in the second.
Anna scored five minutes after the restart, planting a flat and direct strike into the bottom left corner across the keeper after a subtle layoff from Evelyn, and another few minutes passed before she made it FIVE!!!
Perhaps the best goal of the night, and an iconic strike to complete her hattrick. Anna’s outside-boot volley was a sight to behold!

Scarlett was denied her third after a strong close-range save from the keeper, and Abbey Lloyd was subbed on to make her debut for Lions FC, and her first appearance in 240 days. And yes, she marked her return with a goal. A splendid strike inside the near post to make it six.

To finalise the result, and to add the cherry on top, Ana Tormena slotted home in the ninetieth minute to make it 7-0.
The whistle blew without a second of stoppage time, and our Lions Women walked off the field to enthusiastic applause. Unreal work from Nic Whiteside and the team, and a perfect way to set the tone for the season ahead.

Nic Whiteside expressed his thoughts on tonight’s outstanding team performance and the camaraderie amongst the players.
“I think the girls tonight, they performed next level. I think they all went out there as a squad. From the substitute right through to everyone on the bench and obviously, even the staff as well, everyone was on point tonight.
I think the team’s capable of [blowing teams away], and I think one of the biggest things as well was a clean sheet, you know, to be marshalled at the back with centrebacks and obviously with Elli in goals, I think that sets the benchmark. And once you’ve got that confidence in there, it gives the opportunity to players forward, and we played forward well.
We worked on a lot of different things, and they paid off tonight.
Obviously, you get a late night and a midweek match, and to come up with a scoreline like that is something that we all enjoyed. I think it was good, and no problems whatsoever. The team was fantastic tonight.”
