OUR LIONS WOMEN WERE DEFEATED 3-2 AFTER A BRAVE COMEBACK ATTEMPT AT IMPERIAL CORP STADIUM
It wasn’t the start we were striving for at Imperial Corp Stadium, with Brisbane City striking inside the opening ten minutes with an arrowed effort into the top left corner.
We faced a wave of attacks from the hosts as they looked for a second, and Elli Chapple was forced to make a fine diving save to prevent another early goal. The hosts, however, found their security goal, firing a powerful effort across Elli Chapple and into the top left corner.
Our Classico rival looked primed to find their third, but we found our way back into the game five minutes before the break. A great run from Scarlett Premerl saw her win possession in the box, but she was scythed down by the keeper before she could shoot, and our Lions Women were awarded a penalty.
Emileigh Bowman slotted her spot-kick calmly into the bottom right corner to send us into the break with a 2-1 deficit to overturn.

We started with improved intensity and were once again handed a golden opportunity to score. Scarlett Premerl was dragged down inside the box while through on goal, and Emileigh Bowman stepped up to score her second penalty of the afternoon.

Our joy was short-lived, and an untracked corner was bundled over the line at the back post five minutes after our equaliser. A heavy blow after such a patient effort to equalise.
Amy Gunston came close to equalising after a skirting run across the box and a powerful finish that curled over the top right corner. Shianna Singh forced a fine save in stoppage time with a piercing effort towards the bottom left corner, and our Lions Women were forced to accept a frustrating 3-2 defeat in the Brisbane Classico.
Our U23s Women also left Imperial Corp Stadium empty-handed, accepting a 2-0 defeat against the league leaders.
