OUR LIONS WOMEN BOUNCED BACK WITH A COMMANDING 3-2 VICTORY AT HOME OVER GOLD COAST UNITED
It was a strong start at Luxury Paints Stadium for our Lions Women, who were looking for an important victory to help solidify a top-four finish in what has been an immensely competitive 2025 campaign.
There were few chances across the opening fifteen minutes, but Rachel Dudley found the breakthrough with an easy two-yard tappin. The chance fell after Meaghan McElligott’s curling effort was parried into the left post, and bounced across the goal-line!

Minutes later, as the visitors looked for a quick response, Elli Chapple was forced to make a firm save from distance to keep our lead intact. Tara O’Keeffe almost doubled our lead, stabbing a sharp header over the crossbar after a swift team move!
On the half-hour mark, Meaghan got her goal, slicing a left-footed strike into the bottom right corner with the help of the post to double our advantage!

We looked for a third goal before the interval, with Tiarna Karambasis testing the keeper from distance. Down the other end, Ellen Gett made a dominant challenge to recover possession inside the box. Elli followed up with another convincing save minutes later, and Chelsea Blissett steered a firm effort over the crossbar in our last move of the half.
Scarlett Premerl got us off to the perfect start, clipping a neat header into the top left corner with a brush of the woodwork. Her tidy effort was slapped out of the net by the keeper, but it had already crossed the line!

Gold Coast United responded quickly to cut the deficit back to two goals, and an already physical contest became much more intensive as the visitors looked to claw something out of the game.
Scarlett forced a fine diving save with a piercing bullet header from the back post, and Amy Gunson questioned the crossbar with a brutal curling effort from the edge of the box. Amy almost wrapped up the result with a stunning solo effort, surging down the sidelines and across the byline before forcing a reactive save at the near post.
While United snatched a second goal in the 90th minute to put pressure on our Lions Women, the girls held their ground and saw out an important 3-2 victory at home.
