LIONS WOMEN BOUNCE BACK WITH A SCINTILLATING 5-0 VICTORY OVER NORTH LAKES UNITED AT HOME
Hosting North Lakes United in one of our final home games of the season, our Lions Women stepped up with one of our strongest performances of the season.
We started with immediacy in attack. Shianna Singh placed a well-timed effort over the crossbar after a swift move across the box, and Meaghan McElligott broke the deadlock in the eleventh minute. Chelsea Blissett’s early cross met Scarlett Premerl in the centre, and her deft flick-on allowed Meg to bury the ball into the bottom right corner with venom!

Minutes later, Tiarna Karambasis read the play and won the ball off the keeper, flicking the ball to Amy Gunston, who struck the post and saw the ball volleyed over the line by the North Lakes defence.

In the twentieth minute, Meg scored her second goal of the evening to give us a profound early lead. Another early cross from Chelsea, and Meaghan fired home at the back post with composure!

Our dominance continued across the first half, with Tonia-Marie Rantucci forcing a stunning save at the top right corner after a penetrating run through the centre of the North Lakes defence. Shianna forced another save from distance, and we entered the break with a comfortable 3-0 advantage.
Nothing changed after the break, and another early goal strengthened our position. Scarlett Premerl scored her 10th NPL goal of the season, and perhaps her best! A slick touch to set the ball after a corner, followed by a fierce curling effort into the top right corner!

Amy struck the right post again as we looked for a fifth, but this time North Lakes cleared the danger away from their goal.
And from a corner again, Scarlett made it five! Another thunderous strike into the left inside netting!

Elli Chapple made a great save to deny the visitors from burying a free kick, and Rachel Dudley and Amy Gunston threatened the goal as we searched for a sixth. We maintained our composure to secure a well-merited 5-0 victory at home.
Meanwhile, our U23s Women secured a crucial victory that sees them maintain their position in third amidst a competitive battle between third and sixth. Chloe Dale opened the scoring with a beautiful strike from the edge of the box that sank over the keeper and into the top right corner! Lizzie Drummond doubled our advantage with a great finish to secure a 2-0 win!
