A FRUSTRATING NIGHT IN TERALBA PARK, BUT A STOPPAGE-TIME STRIKE RESCUES A 1-1 DRAW IN THE PENULTIMATE GAME OF THE REGULAR SEASON
With our position in fourth locked, and Mitchelton’s relegation confirmed, both sides were playing for pride in the penultimate game of the regular season. Mitchelton playing their final NPL game in front of their home fans, and our Lions Women seeking to build momentum as we head towards the final weekend, and semi-finals approaching.
Shianne Rosselli, returning from injury, clattered the crossbar early in the first half with a sinking header from the edge of the box! As we looked for a breakthrough, Chelsea Blissett dragged a shot wide from distance before firing a curving effort over the crossbar from the same distance.
Both Amy Gunston and Shianna Singh served efforts over the crossbar, and our Lions Women entered the break goalless.

Life didn’t become any easier after the break. Amy made a decisive run down the left channel before firing an excellent strike inches away from the top right corner, and Chelsea forced a save at the near post. The ball fell to Scarlett Premerl inside the box, but her shot was blocked quickly as the Mitchelton defence clung desperately to their cleansheet.
Their keeper pulled off a brave double save to parry Shianne’s long-range strike before palming the ball over Amy as she looked to attack the loose ball. The ball fell on the line, and a defender cleared the danger before anybody could react.
A late counterattack and an improvised backheel flick saw Mitchelton snatch the lead, and the hosts looked sure to exit the NPL with a famous victory in front of their home crowd.
Despite being a frustrating night, our Lions Women didn’t yield, and Abby Evetts defied the script to snatch a point in stoppage time!

We accepted a 1-1 draw at Teralba Park.

Our U23s Women secured a vital victory in ruthless fashion. A brutal 8-0 victory at Teralba Park sees us rise to third as we look to make the Finals Series in a tightly contested battle between the top six. Evie Schultz opened the scoring early with a smart finish, before Molly Simonson doubled our lead with a bullet header! Chloe Kerswell made it three before an own goal sent us into the break leading 4-0.
Daisey Bateman struck early to continue our first-half momentum, before a breathtaking freekick from Alyssa Hair sunk over the keeper and into the top right corner from the opposite flank. Chloe Kerswell fired a powerful half-volley into the bottom right corner, and Lizzie Drummond wrapped up the tie.
