Our Lions Women did everything in their power, decimating QAS 7-1 on the road as they hunted GC Knights for the Premiership in the final round of the season!
With the Gold Coast Knights three points ahead entering the final game of the season, we needed a favour from Sunshine Coast Wanderers. We also needed to close a pretty sizeable goal difference to get the job done on our end.
It was a perfect start. Anna Soulsby flicked an outside-boot volley into the roof of the net after Amy Gunston’s heavy first-touch became a perfect through ball, and our Lions Women lead inside ten minutes.
Three minutes later, and Anna had her second as she looked to cap off a brilliant individual season with the NPLW Golden Boot. A crisp volley into the top corner, and we were well on track!
Amy Gunston made it three-nil inside thirty minutes, guiding a thunderous volley into the lower right corner at the back post!

It was business as usual after the break. QAS proved tough to break down as they protected their goal difference, but they were no match for an Anna Soulsby eager for her hattrick.
A sublime individual goal in the final five minutes effectively secured her treble, and Golden Boot, before a powerful penalty saw her bag goal number four to complete a 7-1 rout in Nudgee (QAS found their consolation in stoppage time.

Unfortunately, GC Knights found the win on the road, securing their second consecutive NPLW Premiership. Well done to Nic Whiteside and our Lions Women on a brave charge, rising from fourth to second (and very nearly first) in a stunning late stroke of form.
