About Us

Lions FC is a proud football club founded in 1957 by Dutch immigrants. Originally established as Hollandia, our illustrious club flourished from its home in the Richlands.

For two decades, we competed in Queensland’s lower and first-division competitions until, in 1977, we were invited to join the prestigious National Soccer League (NSL). For over a decade, until 1988, we proudly represented our club under the names Hollandia and Brisbane Lions, leaving an indelible mark on the Australian football landscape.

One of the crowning moments in our history came in 1981 when our Lions emerged triumphant in the NSL Cup over West Adelaide in Canberra. It was our first title and a testament to our unwavering dedication to excellence.

Since then, our club has been at the forefront of football in Queensland, lifting Premierships, Championships, and Cup Finals.

Today, our Football Department stands at the pinnacle of football in Queensland, continuing to set the benchmark and elevate the standards of football. We take pride in the success of our Lions Women’s Program and our Lions Men’s Program, all the way down to our Masters, Academy, and MiniRoos teams.

Our prestigious Lions Men stand as the most successful men’s team in the NPL, boasting 3x Premierships, 4x Championships, a Kappa Queensland Cup title and a Kappa Pro Series title. Our Lions Women made history in Australian football, setting an unprecedented 61-game unbeaten streak and solidifying us as the most accomplished women’s team in the state. Two consecutive treble-winning seasons, 4x Premierships, 4x Championships, and 3x Kappa Women’s Super Cup titles are a testament to their prestige.

2022 brought great honour to Lions Football Club. We were named FQ Club of the Year, a prestigious recognition of our commitment to football and our community. This remarkable milestone was followed by consecutive awards in 2022, 2023 and 2024. We were awarded the title of Clubs Qld Football Club of the Year and etched our name into the hall of fame for winning three in a row. This significant award further underscores our exceptional achievements and contributions to the footballing landscape in Queensland and Australia.

With over 90 teams and more than 1000 active participants, our club fosters a vibrant and inclusive footballing community. Our commitment to nurturing talent is evident through our Gold Football Academy status, and we are the only club to have FQA 1 and FQA 3 teams, catering to players of various skill levels.

From our elite teams, starting with U9s, to our revered senior teams, who compete in the National Premier League, we prioritise excellence and continuous improvement. Additionally, we are proud to offer community teams spanning from U6s to over 45s, in addition to our PowerChair teams, ensuring that football is accessible and celebrated at all levels.

Lions is involved in administering a thriving Masters league (Over 35s and 45s) comprising 68+ teams from all over Brisbane.

From humble beginnings, our licensed club, The Lion Richlands, is now recognised as a premier hospitality venue in South-East Queensland. Regular innovations are made to our community family-friendly facility that is a home away from home for some 45,000+ members.
