Lions FC is proud to announce an exciting partnership with Brothers Townsville FC to support the development of young footballers and coaches in North Queensland.
Based in Townsville, North Queensland, Brothers Football Academy was originally formed as a junior club in 1967, with the first senior teams created in 1977. The club are currently based in Hi Vista Park in Mount Louisa and is one of the largest clubs in the North Queensland Football League.
They are the first club in regional Queensland to receive the Football Federation Australia’s National Club Accreditation Scheme Level One Certification, and both their FQPL Men & FQPL Women were crowned Champions after a brilliant 2024 campaign!
Speaking about the new partnership, Academy Director John Duncanson discussed the impact that this partnership will have on football in regional Queensland.
“Today is a huge day for football in regional Queensland and for Brothers Townsville FC”, Duncanson said.
“We would like to firstly thank and congratulate Lions FC on this massive showing of support from another club, supporting football development in regional Queensland. The partnership is to provide new opportunities for both club’s players, coaches, programs and communities.
“The regular collaboration and organisation between the two technical and administration teams will provide insights into the club environment that Brothers has never experienced or had access to before from a hugely successful NPL club in Southeast Queensland.
“As we begin our development commitment to our local players and coaches, we will collaborate with Lions FC on best practices and lessons learnt to ensure we are delivering a quality program locally. This will provide local players with access to the resources they need in a familiar club environment, from grassroots to senior football, while being able to live in North Queensland.
“We hope to develop players locally and keep families based in North Queensland as long as possible so they can achieve their goals and any untapped potential with local support. We are very proud of this partnership, and we look forward to what the future brings with the relationship just starting to gather momentum.”
