LIONS MEN SECURE KAPPA QUEENSLAND CUP TITLE AT IMPERIAL CORP STADIUM
An Andy Pengelly brace and a late Luke Broderick show-stopper saw our Lions Men triumph over Moreton City Excelsior in a physically demanding and fiery Cup Final clash!
It was a heated, physical, and electrifying start to the Cup Final action. Slide tackles replaced shots as we traded defensive blows in the opening stages.
Andy Pengelly created the first meaningful chance of the game, guiding a first-time strike north of the goal after a blistering counterattack down the right flank. A tricky bouncing cross from Joshua Brindell-South found the run of Finn Beakhurst, but his shot was flashed wide from a slender angle.
On the edge of thirty minutes, Andy Pengelly broke the deadlock with a brilliant bullet header into the left side of the goal. A fine cross and smart positioning allowed him to meet the ball unmarked.

We maintained control until the end of the half, despite a late scare from Joe Scott, who pinned a powerful back-post header against the crossbar.
The second half didn’t change one bit. Luke Borean was forced to make a crucial save with his outstretched fist before Shaun Carlos had a lethal low shot saved after recovering the ball.
Right on the hour mark, Andy Pengelly doubled the score, scything a lethal first-time shot into the bottom left corner after an imposing lateral move.

An unreal save from Luke Borean prevented Marquez Walters from recovering a goal. His follow-up shot was rifled into the crossbar as they looked for a lifeline.
Two minutes into stoppage time, Luke Broderick wrapped up the title, punishing Moreton City Excelsior with a fierce strike into the right side netting.
