OUR LIONS MEN BOW OUT OF THE KAPPA QUEENSLAND CUP WITH A 3-1 DEFEAT AGAINST PENINSULA POWER
A stunning start from Peninsula Power saw the hosts break the deadlock with a powerful and untethered strike from distance. A swerving effort that gave Cardiff Pond little chance.
We picked ourselves up immediately, stuck to our game plan, and within five minutes we had our equaliser. A sharp cross from Alex Fiechtner was met at the near post by Mitch Hore, and his glancing header beat the keeper with pace!

It was a combative contest from that point, with both teams showing no hesitation in challenging for possession.
Despite possessing more of the ball, we struggled to find targets with our wide crosses, and Power once again surged down the other end to find the go-ahead goal.
A piercing header into the bottom right corner after a swift cross from the same side. We entered the break trailing 2-1, with Andy Pengelly’s late header our final chance of the half.
We started stronger in the second half. Peninsula Power were set up more defensively, and our Lions Men were able to build up more effectively.
Trent Millard thundered a first-time effort over the crossbar on the hour mark after a quick and cohesive move down the left flank, and several crosses caused danger in the centre of the box. While we looked poised to find the next goal, Peninsula Power won possession on the edge of the box and launched a blistering counterattack that resulted in a punishing third goal.
The final thirty minutes were fierce, physical, aggressive, and emotional as we fought with everything we had to recover two critical goals. Four attacking substitutions, and a barrage of whipped crosses that were cleared firmly by the Power defence.

While we mounted a brave fight, Peninsula Power matched it with a steel defence. Our Queensland Cup and subsequent Australia Cup journey ends in Round 6 at AJ Kelly Park.
Attention turns back to the league, and we will take important lessons into our next games. A great effort, and there is plenty still to fight for in 2025!
