KQC Men Round #5: Organised & Commanding at Home

LIONS MEN PROGRESS IN THE KAPPA QUEENSLAND CUP WITH A PREDOMINANT DISPLAY AT HOME

A disciplined performance and an effective press saw our Lions Men secure a 2-0 victory over Peninsula Power.

Our Lions Men started on the front foot, displaying their attacking intent and pressing the Peninsula Power defence into mistakes.

With an organised shape and an effective press, our Lions Men created several clear chances across the opening quarter. It was Joshua Brindell-South who broke the deadlock, sending a signature scorching effort into the back of the net from long distance. The keeper made contact, but the weight of the shot saw it trickle over the line.

Andy Pengelly saw a series of shots saved over a period of minutes. Slinking into space on the left, Andy clipped the ball wide after surging into the box before forcing a diving save from the edge of the box.

Luke Broderick led a 3v2 counterattack, but his cross went unmet at the back post. A Jack Skinner solo effort preceded a crucial instinct block from Luke Borean, who reacted quickly after a sharp close-range cutback. Brindell-South almost buried another rocket before, on the brink of half-time, Andy Pengelly doubled our lead with a simple finish at the back post after a sharp cross from Luke Broderick.

We went into the interval with a deserved 2-0 lead.

Our Lions Men controlled the tempo as the second half unfolded, preventing any clear chances while continuing to advance in dangerous areas. Andy Pengelly almost made it three on the hour mark, but his effort was saved at the near post from a tight angle.

Luke Borean made a full-strength save along his goal face, preventing the visitors from recovering a goal. Hassan Ramazani dropped an ‘I’m him’ moment, flooring an onrushing defender with an elegant feint despite having an exposed goal behind him.

We defended with resolution in the closing stages of the match, continuing to press high while advancing in transition. We held on for a well-earned 2-0 victory. Perhaps our best performance of the season so far.
