KQC Quarter-Final: Progression Secured

A three-goal showcase on the Sunshine Coast saw our Lions Men book their ticket to the Australia Cup Round of 32 in style

We were handed the most ideal of starts when a second yellow card, both for reckless challenges on Eremugo Debele, saw the hosts down to ten men inside ten minutes.

Our Lions Men wasted no time turning that advantage into a lead, with Mitch Hore pouncing in the box to slot home the opening goal!

Shaun Carlos sliced inside and drilled a low effort wide as we targeted a quick second goal, and Alex Fiechtner doubled our lead before the half-hour mark with a brilliant individual goal. Control on the chest, two defenders left in the mud, and a sharp finish across the keeper!

With little work to do defensively, our Lions Men entered the break with a commanding 2-0 advantage.

The second half proved unproblematic as our Lions Men continued to dictate the tempo. A great cutback from Alex Fiechtner found Blair Ponting, who cut inside and fired into the first defender with power.

Alex Irwin unleashed a brave effort from distance, and Tuquiri Beckett surged down the centre, seeing his audacious chipped effort claimed by the keeper.

To put the tie to bed in the final minutes, Jackson Hart-Phillips rifled home a sharp first-time effort to send us to the National Round of the Australia Cup.

Well done to Dan Barber and our Lions Men. Round of 32 secured, and Kappa QLD Cup Semi-Finals booked!
