Our Lions Women advanced to the next round of the Kappa Queensland Cup with Abbey Lloyd’s last-minute winner completing the comeback away against Olympic FC
A tough midweek clash saw our Lions Women return to Goodwin Park to face Olympic FC. A strong start to the hosts saw us knocked down 1-0 inside the opening ten minutes, and the challenge was set.
As we looked for an early way back into the game, Abbey Lloyd pressed forward and forced a diving save. Scarlett Premerl played a sharp cross to Abbey minutes later, but her attempt bounced off the top right corner.
The chances continued to fall for Scarlett and Abbey as we increased our intensity. Scarlett forced a close-range save, while Abbey sent a powerful long-range effort over the crossbar. Teagan Hugo delivered a neat into the box, with Anna Soulsby driving her header over the goal. Anna and Emileigh Bowman both forced saves from the edge of the box, and we entered the break trailing 1-0.
We continued to dominate when play resumed. A few chances fell, and then in the 66th minute, Scarlett Premerl thundered home the equaliser with a precise back-post volley following Tonia-Marie Rantucci’s brilliant cross!
Natalie Tathem missed the mark by millimetres from distance, and Emileigh Bowman came close to breaking the deadlock with a precise freekick.
With the game looking destined for extra time, Abbey Lloyd capitalised on a goalkeeper error in the 90th minute to poke our Lions Women ahead!
