KQC R4: We Progress With Three Goals

LIONS WOMEN SECURE PROGRESSION WITH A CONTROLLED 3-0 VICTORY AT LUXURY PAINTS STADIUM

We started in control and dominated possession across the first half. An early chance from Kiersten Yuhas threatened the top right corner, before Rachel Dudley saw a goal denied by the offside flag.

A pattern that would follow throughout the first half as we looked to unlock a well-disciplined Musgrave defence. The offside flag rose almost a dozen times as we looked to slip our forwards into space, and while their high line was risky, it worked.

Rachel Dudley fizzed a left-footed effort millimetres over the crossbar after catching the keeper exposed, Scarlett Premerl forced a fingertip save, and Tonia-Marie Rantucci rattled the crossbar from a corner!

We entered the break locked level at 0-0.

We started the second half with immediate urgency. Less than sixty seconds on the clock, and Kiersten Yuhas arrived at the back post to bury the opening goal of the game.

Minutes later, after catching the keeper out of position, Shianne Rosselli hooked a snapshot from distance centimetres wide of the bottom left corner. Scarlett Premerl glanced a tidy header wide as we continued pushing for a second goal.

As the chances kept flowing, Scarlett Premerl made her mark. A firm downward header pointed perfectly into the bottom left corner made it 2-0 on the hour!

Scarlett Premerl glanced another header wide from the front post, and Chloe Dale clattered the crossbar with a laser-sharp strike from thirty yards. Chloe Kerswell, Sophia Colen, and Eliza Hoyling stepped into the action and made their well-earned senior debuts!

Sophia looked excellent under pressure and made an outstanding challenge to prevent a dangerous counterattack. Chloe stretched the Musgrave defence with her relentless runs into space, and very nearly got on the scoresheet, while Eliza Hoyling locked down the left flank with rapid pace.

With two minutes remaining, Chloe Kerswell saw her shot bounce awkwardly towards the goal-line, but it was Shianne Rosselli who got the final touch before the Musgrave defence could clear the danger!

We saw out the final minutes with composure and secured our progression to Round 5 of the Kappa Queensland Cup with a firm 3-0 victory. Our U23s debutants added plenty of colour and flair to the game as we turn our attention to this weekend’s massive home clash against Gold Coast Knights.
