MATCH REPORT: Australia Cup Rd4 vs Brisbane Strikers

A goal-filled second half saw us run away with the victory and an Andy Pengelly hattrick lead us to a 6-1 away display.

Away from home for the first time this season, our Lions travelled to Perry Park to face the Brisbane Strikers in the fourth round of the Australia Cup.

Andy Pengelly continued his streak of scoring in each game this season, opening the game in our favour with a clean volley into the left side of the goal following a corner in the opening ten minutes.

Alex Fiechtner doubled our lead two minutes into the second half, running onto a low-ball and placing his shot over the keeper’s head from a narrow angle.

After a great switch of play from Matt Ridenton and an exchange of passes on the left flank, Alex Fiechtner picked out Andy Thompson at the back post, with the substitute sliding the ball into the back of the net for our fourth.

Following a scuffed shot and a misplaced clearance that struck the post, Andy Pengelly added his second with ease, tapping home into an open net after the ball fell generously into his path.

Jafari pulled back a consolation goal for his side before Fletcher McDonald replied with a careful finish into the bottom left corner. Five minutes from full-time Andy Pengelly sealed his hattrick with a marvellous volleyed chip from the edge of the box to seal a six-one victory against his former side.

The win sees us progress to the next round of the Australia Cup, but our attention is on this Sunday’s away match against Eastern Suburbs FC.
