A controlled first half proved decisive as we toppled Eastern Suburbs in our first NPL away game of the season.
In our first away game of the NPL campaign, our Lions travelled to Heath park to take on the Eastern Suburbs in the sixth round of the 2022 NPL season.
With a compelling first-half display, we entered the break with a three-goal cushion courtesy of goals from Andy Pengelly and Alex Fiechtner.
It took just twelve minutes for Pengelly to break the deadlock, volleying the ball into the top right corner after a sweeping cross met his powerful right foot.
Twisting and turning, Alex Fiechtner doubled our lead just before the half-hour mark, darting past his defender on the left and firing a low effort into the bottom right corner.
Fiechtner added his second just two minutes later, tapping home into an empty net from close range.
We started the second half with energy, creating a four-goal cushion thanks to a glancing Tommy Jarrard header at the near post.
Despite defending well, we were unfortunate to concede our cleansheet after a fantastic Aidan Munford save fell to the feet of an onrushing Suburbs attacker, who slotted the ball away from close range.
Andy Pengelly was unfortunate not to net our fifth goal, sending a powerful penalty over the crossbar after sending the keeper the wrong way.
We head away for a second consecutive week on Saturday afternoon, where we will face Brisbane City FC in the Brisbane Classico at CTM Stadium.
