MATCH REPORT: NPL MEN RD7 VS BRISBANE ROAR YOUTH

A second successive cleansheet and three goals in the second half earned us a major win in a physical clash at home.

Our Lions roared loudest in a convincing victory against an aggressive Brisbane Roar side on a rainy evening at home.

Three second-half goals and a colossal display at the back saw us cruise to three points with very little threat on Aidan Munford’s goal.

Captain Shaun Carlos poked the ball home from close range after an incredible acrobatic cross from Alex Fiechtner to seal a one-goal advantage as we exited an intense first half.

We came out firing in the second interval with Alex Fiechtner hammering home our second goal following a beautifully weighted lofted through-ball from Zach Maltby.

Fiechtner put the game to sleep in the seventy-fifth minute after guiding the ball into the top left roof of the net after a bouncing cross from the left flank before Andy Pengelly added his name to the scoresheet in stoppage time with a simple finish following a Fiechtner dummy.

Speaking after the game, defender Tommy Jarrard spoke about his side’s impressive performance at home.

“I think the boys up front are doing a pretty phenomenal job at putting away the chances”, Jarrard said. “We’re creating a lot, but we’re scoring them too which is awesome.

“I think a lot of things are just coming together, the communication across the back three is really sound now, we’re understanding each other a little better and our habits.”

After a physical game against Roar, we’re expecting more of the same when we face the Gold Coast Knights away at Coplicks Park this Saturday evening.
