NPL SEMI-FINAL
Our season concludes at home after a shock opener within the first minute.
LIONS VS GOLD COAST UNITED: NPL SEMI-FINAL
A goal in the first forty-five seconds condemned us to defeat in a fraught affair at Luxury Paints Stadium.
We fought for our chances and were met with resistance against a strong Gold Coast United side that threatened us from the first whistle. Forty-five seconds was all it took for our Lionesses to find their backs against the wall.
Our Lionesses weathered the storm across the opening ten minutes, steadying the ship and beginning to advance. Kaho Nakadate created our first chance, stinging the palms of the keeper after gliding onto a Tegan Riding layoff. We created a few more chances before the visitors put us back on the defensive, with Abby Evetts putting on the after-burners to make a crucial interception in the box. A fingertip save from Elli Chapple tipped an inch-perfect finesse onto the woodwork.
The second half resumed, and we stepped up with intent. Teagan Thompson, Amy Gunston, and Rebecca Kirkup, all nursing minor injuries, stepped onto the field to support our recovery. It wasn’t to be.
Elli Chapple rushed off her line to make an incredible one-v-one save after Zoe Corbett nicked in behind to create an almost guaranteed goal. Another fine save followed by several attempts from our forwards ended in despair as the final whistle sounded and our hard-fought season settled.
While our campaign unfortunately ended in the Semi-Finals, we can look back in pride after winning a third consecutive Premiership and Kappa Women’s Super Cup title.
