GOLD COAST UNITED LEAVE LUXURY PAINTS STADIUM WITH A 4-2 VICTORY IN A FIERY BATTLE
It was a fast start for Gold Coast United, who found the back of the net inside ten minutes after a quick counterattack down the left flank. We struggled to create chances against United’s firm defence, and found ourselves 2-0 down by the thirty-minute mark.
Jackson Hart-Phillips sent a golden opportunity over the crossbar from close range, pouncing on a loose ball after Alex Fiechtner’s cross was palmed clear. Luke Broderick cut inside sharply, forcing a firm fingertip save at the bottom right corner, but we entered the interval trailing by two goals.
We started the second half with another two-goal deficit to overturn. Jack Skinner and James Enticknap joined the fray, with the latter making a crucial block to prevent a third goal.
As we continued to probe for a route back into the game, Joe Duckworth nearly found the breakthrough with an improvised first-time shot. The deft finish was seen by the keeper at the last second, and smothered at the bottom right corner.
Tensions boiled over in the final twenty minutes, with Luke Broderick and a Gold Coast United player both being shown a red card. The visitors immediately scored a third goal and gave us an absolute mountain to climb.
Jack Skinner forced a fantastic diving save from distance, and with just over ten minutes remaining, Jake Bulla Minett found our first goal of the night.

Dreams of a miraculous comeback were short-lived as Gold Coast United slotted the ball under Cardiff Pond five minutes later to re-establish their three-goal lead. We didn’t let them have the final say, and Jack Skinner pulled back a goal with two minutes remaining.
Ultimately, it was too late for a comeback, and we were forced to accept a bitter defeat in an emotional battle at Luxury Paints Stadium.
