MITCH HORE EQUALISES LATE IN A DOMINANT 1-1 DRAW AT LUXURY PAINTS STADIUM
Peninsula Power started in possession, but we started with intensity and maintained it for the entire first half. We were relentlessly direct, energetic, and brave, as we surged forward in constant search of chances.
The visitors found very little time on the ball and struggled to maintain possession for more than a few seconds in our half. Andy Pengelly created our first clear chance with a curling effort that sailed over the top right corner from the opposite side of the box!
While our chances didn’t always materialise into clear shots on goal, we overwhelmed the visitors with a barrage of crosses, defence-splitting passes, and sharp cutbacks from the byline. Trent Millard drilled an audacious half-volley north of the crossbar from the edge of the box as we continued to pile on the pressure.
Joe Duckworth orchestrated one of our finest chances of the half, receiving the ball outside his own box before embarking on a line-breaking run down the right side of the field. He darted between two midfielders before beating a defender and slipping the ball to Andy Pengelly. His lofted effort sailed inches over the crossbar from the edge of the box!
Shaun Carlos almost forced an own goal with a fierce cutback that deflected off the first defender, but we entered the interval locked in a goalless duel.
We continued to dictate the tempo as the second half resumed, and Hassan Ramazani came close to finding the breakthrough with a low left-footed effort from the edge of the box.
And then, against the run of play, Peninsula Power broke down the left, sent a shot into the right stick, and blasted home at the back post after an unlucky deflection.
The boys looked for a quick response, and a great move freed Alex Fiechtner down the left flank, but his low effort was palmed away desperately. James Enticknap forced a save from distance, and Alex Fiechtner’s feint over the ball created space on the left for Jackson Hart-Phillips to cross. Pranav Vallabh arrived at the back post, but his header was directed over the crossbar.
Nothing changed as the clock ticked down, and we continued to create overloads in the final third. Peninsula Power escaped their half once or twice, but our defence dealt with the danger quickly.
A neat one-two between Andy Pengelly and Mitch Hore opened space in the box, but Mitch’s first-time shot is blocked by the keeper, and the defence reacted quickly to clear the danger.
With five minutes remaining, our Lions Men finally broke the Peninsula Power resistance; Mitch Hore flicked a Joe Duckworth header into the top right corner from close range!

We threw everything at the visitors for the final five minutes, with James Enticknap finding Jackson Hart-Phillips with a sleek backheel. His cross met Andy Pengelly at the back post, but was poked agonisingly wide.
Despite a dominant and high-calibre performance, our Lions Men were forced to settle for a lone point. We’ll keep building and continue the charge next week against the Gold Coast Knights!
