Luke Broderick’s brilliant four-goal haul saw our Lions Men fight from 2-0 down to lift the NPL Premiership at Luxury Paints Stadium
Perhaps the worst possible start when you’re playing for a Premiership; Brisbane Roar Academy snatched the opener inside the first minute.
The pressure was certainly on early, and an immense block from Tommy Jarrard ensured we didn’t concede an early second. We grew into the game and created some excellent chances. Jackson Hart-Phillips saw an effort saved at close range, and Blair Ponting’s powerful cross was caught before Luke Broderick could make contact.
On the half-hour mark, George Plusnin made an absurd save at point-blank range to deny Luke Broderick after Shaun Carlos’ thunderous strike ricocheted off the underside of the crossbar. Another save to deny Luke. Then we struck the post. And then Brisbane Roar B doubled their lead with an outrageous effort from distance.
Our way back into the game emerged on the brink of half-time, with Luke Broderick converting from the penalty spot with power!
We knew what we needed to do in the second half. There was no room for error.
With a jubilant crowd behind us, Luke Broderick found the equaliser with a clinical finish into the bottom right corner after a blistering counterattack from box to box!

An insane save from Jacson Riley ensured our equaliser wasn’t quickly erased, and Shaun Carlos was again denied after a great save. Jackson Hart-Phillips’ header missed the target by inches, and Cher Deng made a great block to prevent Roar from creating further danger.
With two minutes on the clock, and three points necessary to secure the title, Luke Broderick stepped up with the goal of his career, completing his hattrick with a spellbinding strike into the top right corner!

Deep in stoppage time, Luke Broderick capitalised on a keeper error, walking the ball into an empty net to win the game and the NPL Premiership at Luxury Paints Stadium. The final whistle sounded as the ball crossed the line, and the scenes were incredible as we lifted our first Premiership since 2022!
