NPLM R7: We Reign Superior Under The Rain

OUR LIONS MEN RETURN TO WINNING WAYS WITH A STRONG 3-0 VICTORY AT ST GEORGE’S PARK

If you required any action to showcase our intent, Alex Fiechtner’s strike in the third minute made it clear. Hardly two minutes had passed when the winger cut inside briskly and buried a fierce strike into the bottom left corner with precision!

Fiechtner again continued to create the danger, forcing a quick save after slicing a sharp cross into a dangerous area. He forced another save soon after, sliding inside and guiding a curling effort towards the bottom right corner. It was palmed out for a corner at the last second, and Finn Beakhurst then sent a powerful effort off-target following the set piece.

As we pressed forward for our second goal of the evening, Shaun Carlos looked certain to score from close range, but his low effort was blocked with resolution from an onrushing keeper! Finn Beakhurst clipped the crossbar with a tidy corner, and the second goal became a matter of when, not if.

With only a one-goal lead to protect, Cardiff Pond reacted brilliantly from point-blank range, blocking a thunderous volley in the centre of his goal. Tommy Jarrard made a strong block minutes later as St George piled on the pressure in the final ten, creating several decent chances.

On the stroke of half-time, Alex Fiechtner barrelled a ruthless close-range strike into the roof of the net, meeting the ball on the rebound after an initial save from the keeper!

The rain resumed as the second half commenced, and again, we started quickly. Within the first ten minutes, Joe Duckworth, Alex Fiechtner, and Jack Skinner had seen promising chances fail to find the back of the net.

As the hour ticked over, Andy Pengelly rose at the back post, hammering a downward header beyond the keeper and into the back of the net. It was an excellent cross from Alex Fiechtner to eliminate two defenders.

The rainfall increased further, and we managed the final thirty minutes of the game effectively. Jackson Hart-Phillips created a strong opportunity down the left channel, and Luke Broderick slid past his marker with an array of sharp stepovers, but his low effort was saved.

We maintained our focus, and saw out the result without much threat from the hosts. After a difficult midweek clash, and a frustrating result last weekend, it was a fantastic and necessary victory as we look to ascend the NPL Table.
