Gold Coast Knights defeat our Lions Women 3-0 on the road in a difficult Qualifying Final clash
It wasn’t to be for our Lions Women, who travelled back to the Croatian Sports Centre for a third time this season, with a place in the NPLW Grand Final on the line.
A measured start, but with limited chances, it was Gold Coast Knights who drew first blood ten minutes from the end of the first half. They followed up on the stroke of half-time with a second goal that gave us a mountain to climb.
With Knights in full ascendancy, the hosts put the tie to bed on the hour mark with a punishing third strike.
Stella Campbell made a remarkable diving save at close range, and Abbey Lloyd made a crucial goal-line header moments later.
Anna Souslnby almost recovered a goal, slicing inside and curling a powerful effort shy of the top right corner. With just over ten minutes remaining, Libby Cybulski was shown a straight red card.
It ended in defeat, but our Lions Women have a second bite next weekend at home where they will host Eastern Suburbs at Luxury Paints Stadium in the Elimination Final!
