NPLW R10: Triumph in Tallebudgera

OUR LIONS WOMEN CONTINUE THEIR STRONG FORM WITH A CRUCIAL 4-0 VICTORY ON THE ROAD AGAINST GOLD COAST UNITED

A tight start at Coplicks Family Sports Park saw both sides take a measured approach in possession. An early snapshot from Ellen Gett was the only chance across the opening fifteen minutes as play was directed up & down the left flank with little success from either side.

Chelsea Fairbairn kept the hosts at bay, while Shianne Rosselli and Scarlett Premerl put pressure on their right-sided defenders.

Shianne Rosselli cut inside quickly before curling a right-footed effort over the crossbar. It was a sign of what was to come, as minutes later, Shianne broke the deadlock at the back post!

Ellen Gett’s snapshot from the corner fell into her path, and she poked it home at the back post to give us a 1-0 lead!

We continued to apply pressure in the final third after taking the lead. Scarlett Premerl hooked a first-time effort over the crossbar, and Shianne Rosselli forced a crucial save at the bottom left corner!

Scarlett then clipped the crossbar with a glancing header, before firing a firm effort over the woodwork as we entered the interval with a slender 1-0 lead.

We started the second half with immediate intensity.

Both Shianne Rosselli and Kiersten Yuhas saw dangerous chances fly off-target before the latter doubled our lead with a brutal strike at the near post!

Nothing changed as we sought out the third goal, and a final nail in the coffin.

Ellen Gett set herself to shoot from forty yards, guiding a glorious right-footed strike inches wide of the top right corner. Libby Cybulski made a commanding block down the other end as Gold Coast United tried to catch us on the counter, and Meaghan McElligott rattled the right post minutes after stepping onto the field.

With five minutes remaining, Ellen Gett finally got her well-deserved goal, guiding a fierce first-time effort into the top left corner with venom!

And on the stroke of ninety, Shianne Rosselli put a neat bow on a brilliant performance with a sweet goal to make it four!

We maintained our composure and saw out an assuring and deserved 4-0 victory at Coplicks Family Sports Park.

Our attention now turns to another long drive on Saturday, as we travel up to Ballinger Park to face the Sunshine Coast Wanderers.
