Amy Gunston’s hattrick saw our Lions Women secure a dramatic late victory over QAS on the road
A late-night midweek battle for our Lions Women. We started strong, showing immediate intensity, and Scarlett Premerl hooked a right-footed strike inches shy of the bottom left corner!
Natalie Tathem forced an uncomfortable save at the top left corner after winning possession on the edge of the box, and Elisa Karas made a sharp save at the near post.
Again, Natalie came close to breaking the deadlock, but her powerful effort missed the top right corner by inches.
On the half-hour mark, QAS struck first, whipping a great corner into the centre of the box, which was planted firmly in the left side of goal to make it 1-0. Minutes after kickoff, Anna Soulsby tried to catch the keeper off her line from halfway, but her accurate effort clipped the underside of the crossbar.
We entered the break trailing.
Evelyn Calhoon fired over the crossbar as we searched for an avenue back into the game, and Anna Soulsby nodded a close-range header over the crossbar after Scarlett Premerl did well to round the keeper out wide before whipping a cross into the back post.
Another scorcher from Natalie Tathem was tipped over the crossbar at the top right corner, and Amy Gunston, on her return from injury, made an immediate impact with a glancing front-post header into the top left corner!

With fifteen minutes remaining, Amy Gunston smashed home the go-ahead goal after Anna Soulsby’s strike ricocheted off the left post!

Our lead was short-lived, however, as Lily Punch buried an extraordinary freekick into the top left from a wide position. Genuinely excellent goal.
But their moment too was short-lived, because Prime Amy Gunston was back with a vengeance. Her first appearance since the Brisbane Classico, and she latches onto a defensive error on the edge of the box, rounding the keeper without space, and guiding a composed left-footed effort into the back of the net off the crossbar! Absolute scenes!
