OUR LIONS WOMEN BATTLED PATIENTLY FOR A CRUCIAL 2-0 VICTORY OVER MITCHELTON FC AT LUXURY PAINTS STADIUM
Despite the chilly winter temperature drop, our Lions Women started with immediacy and intent, snapping several early chances to warn the Mitchelton defence. Meaghan McElligott tested the keeper with a powerful effort as we looked for an early solution.
McKinley Stiff found the key, slotting home her first goal at Luxury Paints Stadium with a cool finish across the keeper from a tight angle on the left. A neat goal to give us a 1-0 lead inside fifteen minutes.

Chelsea Blissett struck a firm, rising effort into the crossbar with a first-time effort from the edge of the box, and Rachel Dudley faded a tidy effort wide of the left post after a measured team move down the left file.
We continued to dominate the play, controlling the tempo and advancing towards the opposition’s goal. Swift, well-orchestrated moves created space, but we were unable to connect a clean strike beyond the keeper. Meaghan McElligott saw a low effort blocked at the bottom right corner, and our Lions Women entered the break with a tense 1-0 lead to extend.
Little changed after the break, and our Lions Women maintained total control. The second goal, however, remained elusive as we continued to test the Mitchelton keeper while attacking through various channels.
Ruby Suitor made an outstanding back-post block to prevent a dangerous unmarked strike from threatening the goal, and Amy Gunston was introduced to add pace and energy to our front three. Emileigh Bowman made her return from injury as we continued to dictate the play.
With time running out, Elli Chapple was forced to make a fine save as Mitchelton embarked on a rare counterattack. Scarlett Premerl rifled a powerful effort inches north of the top right corner in the final five minutes, and the game looked destined to end 1-0 until Shianna Singh intervened.

A beautiful finish from the edge of the box, placed perfectly inside the bottom right corner in stoppage time, put all doubts behind us. We succeeded with an important 2-0 victory at Luxury Paints Stadium.
