Abbey Lloyd’s double and Amy Gunston’s opener give our Lions Women a strong 3-1 victory at Goodwin Park!
After a tough week of abandoned games and cup action, our Lions Women took to the field at Goodwin Park with one objective: three points.
Our third meeting in Yeronga against Olympic FC was another intense and engaging battle. Amy Gunston forced a save after a strong collective build-up down the left flank.
Stella Campbell, making her official senior debut in goal, came off her line to make a commanding save as the hosts looked for the opener.
A strong diving save from the Olympic keeper denied Amy Gunston, and moments later, she almost found the breakthrough after a dazzling solo run.
After an impactful start, it had to be Amy to open the scoring. On the brink of half-time, Amy put us ahead with a composed back-post volley after Teagan Hugo’s effort was palmed away!

Before the referee could blow for half-time, Abbey Lloyd got in on the action and doubled our lead with a clinical strike into the bottom right corner.

We took a two-goal lead into the break.
Business resumed after the break, and Anna Soulsby came close to finding the back of the net after winning possession in the final third, but her effort was blocked by the keeper.
On the hour mark, Abbey Lloyd struck her second to put the game to bed. A calm finish to make it three.

The hosts responded ten minutes later to make it 3-1, but our Lions Women held strong in a composed, organised, and well-rounded performance to see out the result.
