NPLW R21: Five-Star Lions Roar Past Olympic

Our Lions Women returned to winning ways in style on Saturday afternoon, producing a dominant 5-0 victory over Olympic FC at Luxury Paints Stadium.

It took just six minutes for our Lions to find the breakthrough. Abbey Lloyd whipped a dangerous cross into the box, where Anna Soulsby threw herself at the ball, stretching brilliantly to guide it into the back of the net and hand the hosts an early lead.

Buoyed by the early opener, our Lions settled into the contest, controlling possession and creating chances while limiting Olympic’s opportunities throughout the remainder of the first half.

Our Lions looked to continue their momentum after the restart, earning an early free-kick deep in attacking territory as they continued to ask questions of the Olympic defence.

Olympic threatened to respond in the 55th minute, but Stella Campbell came to the rescue. Diving low to her left, she produced a brilliant save to deny a powerful strike from a tight angle and preserve our clean sheet.

The breakthrough for our third came just after the hour mark. Teagan Hugo delivered a teasing cross for Abbey Lloyd, whose initial header was well saved. An Olympic defender attempted to clear the rebound, but Lloyd blocked the clearance before Scarlett Premerl reacted quickest, calmly squaring the ball back into the box for Lloyd to finish at the second attempt.

Just six minutes later, the pair combined again. Premerl delivered a perfect cross across the face of goal, where Lloyd rose highest to power a header into the far corner and claim her second goal of the afternoon.

After providing two assists, Premerl deservedly got on the scoresheet herself in the 81st minute, unleashing a superb strike from the edge of the penalty area to extend our advantage.

There was still time for one final moment of quality. Anna Soulsby burst clear of her defender in the 86th minute before delicately volleying the ball over the advancing goalkeeper to complete her brace and seal a five-star afternoon for our Lions Women.

It was a complete performance from start to finish, with our Lions Women securing all three points, scoring five outstanding goals and keeping a well-earned clean sheet in front of the home crowd.
