Natalie Tathem’s late strike saw our Lions Women win the Brisbane Classico 1-0 at Luxury Paints Stadium
Facing Brisbane City for the third time this season, our Lions Women started strong in front of a vibrant home crowd at Luxury Paints Stadium.
Scarlett Premerl and Anna Soulsby had early chances, with Anna guiding an edge-of-the-box volley shy of the bottom right corner. Stella Campbell made a great save, and Anna forced a diving save after a penetrating run.
A glancing header from Abbey Lloyd was punched clear, and our Lions Women entered the break locked level.
We started the second half with the same momentum. Anna made a great attacking run, beating the keeper with an elegant chip, but her effort was cleared off the goal line. Lauren Costello made a crucial block inside the box, and another superb save from Stella in a one-v-one situation kept us level.
Efforts from Anna Soulsby and Natalie Tathem missed the mark until Nat stepped up with a famous winner with five minutes remaining!
