Our Lions Women put on a competitive performance at Luxury Paints Stadium, but were forced to accept a 2-0 defeat against Eastern Suburbs
It was an intense clash, as always when Lions meet Tigers, and this match was no exception. Fourth vs third with important points up for grabs, and our Lions Women looking to continue the strong run of form that saw them keep four consecutive cleansheets in four wins.
Elisa Karas was forced to make an early save at her near post, and ten minutes later, Anna Soulsby down the opposite end cut inside and forced an intervention from the keeper. A series of chances inside the box again required Elisa from close range as Easts looked to strike first.
The visitors were ultimately successful, with Tegan Riding slipping the ball past Elisa for Elly Caspanello to finish at point-blank range.
Scarlett Premerl saw an excellent effort saved at the near post as our Lions Women looked for a response, and we entered the break trailing 1-0.
Back on the park with a point to prove, and our Lions Women continued working hard to carve out the chances required to force the equaliser.
Elisa Karas made a series of important saves as Easts looked to double their lead, and our Lions Women worked hard to create pressure in the final third. Evelyn Calhoon carried possession down the centre, forcing an important save with a powerful effort from range!
We almost snatched the equaliser through Molly Simonson, who closed down the keeper with heavy pressure, toe-poking the ball inches wide as she blocked the pass out from the back.
Late in the game, Easts found their second goal with Harkana Katchenko turning the ball over the line after a strong corner delivery, and our Lions Women had a mountain to climb with almost no time on the clock.
Despite a strong late effort, we couldn’t find the breakthrough and were forced to accept a frustrating 2-0 defeat at home.
