NPLW Round #17: A Difficult Defeat on the Road

A STUNNING LONG-RANGE EFFORT CONDEMNED OUR LIONS WOMEN TO DEFEAT AT BALLINGER PARK

Our Lions Women suffered a 1-0 defeat on the road in a difficult contest against the Sunshine Coast Wanderers.

Despite controlling possession, our Lions Women struggled to create chances against a resolute Sunshine Coast Wanderers side. The first thirty minutes elapsed with few clear chances created.

We came close from a corner, forcing a save at the near post before a first-time follow-up strike rose over the crossbar from the edge of the box. The hosts had the better opportunities, but the first half ended goalless.

Midway through the second half, Ellen Gett struck the upper left post with a brilliant dipping strike across goal from thirty yards. Ten minutes later, the hosts broke the deadlock, catching Emily Clark off her line with a stunning first-time effort from 25 yards.

Several late chances weren’t enough to break even, as the hosts condemned us to a difficult defeat on the road.
