NPLW Round #21: Brilliant Goals & Sweet Victory

OUR LIONS WOMEN SHOWCASE THEIR DOMINANCE IN A BALANCED VICTORY AT LUXURY PAINTS STADIUM

Remarkable goals from Alyssa Cox and Mackenzie Nielsen directed us in a measured 2-0 victory over Gold Coast United.

A captivating start saw our Lions Women lurch into an early lead through Alyssa Cox. Following a dazzling run down the left flank, Tui Dugan flicked the ball to Alyssa on the edge of the box. She pivoted to switch feet, planting a glorious shot into the top left corner with finesse.

We continued to flourish in transition, attacking with strength on the counter. Tui Dugan, Alyssa Cox, and Tonia-Marie Rantucci all caused damage out wide.

Tonia Marie-Rantucci forced a brilliant save after a particularly compelling team counterattack, forcing the keeper to tip her dipping half-volley over the crossbar at the final second.

Emily Clark rushed bravely off her line to stop Bronte Rose in a 1v1 situation. A fine block with her foot without drawing the foul.

We left the field at half-time with a tense 1-0 lead.

With the same rhythm after the restart, we continued to apply pressure in search of the second.

Mackenzie Nielsen made it two with a piece of art. Taking a delicate touch on the tip of the box to set herself, Mackenzie guided a marvellous rising strike into the top right corner with elegance.

Our defence remained defiant as Gold Coast United battled to recover a goal, with Emily Clark making several composed saves to eradicate any threat.

Tonia-Marie Rantucci nearly wrapped up the game, jinxing between feet on the left side of the box before blasting her shot over the top left corner with power.

We maintained our unified defensive mentality until the final seconds, fighting with heart to wrap up a crucial 2-0 victory.
