KQC Men Round #4: Lions Men Cruise Past Kingscliff

A MEASURED DISPLAY SEES OUR LIONS MEN PROGRESS TO THE NEXT ROUND OF THE KAPPA QUEENSLAND CUP

Our Lions Men displaced the Wolves with a comfortable 4-1 victory in a high-tempo match at Luxury Paints Stadium.

Despite an energetic start from the Kingsliff Wolves, our Lions Men surged into an early lead at home. Alex Fiechtner drew a penalty after flicking the ball over an onrushing defender before shooting, and Andy Pengelly stepped up to take the spot-kick. A sharp finish into the bottom left corner made it 1-0 within the first ten minutes.

We created several more chances through Alex Fiechtner and Andy Pengelly before Luke Borean was called on to make a fine one-on-one save as the visitors broke down the centre with speed.

Andy Pengelly made it 2-0 in the twentieth minute, tucking a first-time shot into the bottom left corner after a sharp cross from the right flank. Josh Brindell-South scored our third before the thirtieth minute, forcing a brutal thirty-yard strike into the back of the net. A diving save from the keeper wasn’t enough to prevent his powerful effort from crossing the line.

Jackson Hart-Phillips prodded the ball over the line to make it 4-0 after a flurry of shots in the box. We maintained our composure until the break, walking off the field with a comfortable margin.

The second half resumed with increased physicality. Two close chances from Andy Pengelly almost made it five, but our Lions continued to control proceedings, attacking primarily down the left flank. Challenges became more frequent, particularly in the final third.

Alex Fiechtner created a beautiful chance, feinting under an aerial ball before turning his defender, flicking the ball between two more, and bearing down on goal with pace. An onrushing keeper cleared the danger.

Kinscliff almost scored a worldie, striking the left post after an acrobatic scissor kick at the back post! They eventually scored a late consolation, catching Luke Borean off his line in the final minutes.

We kept our composure in the final minutes, seeing out a comfortable victory.
